Awami League leader, main accused in Azad Sarkar’s murder during Chandpur mass uprising, arrested
Police have arrested Awami League leader Monir Hossain Mithu Kazi (52), the main accused in the murder of Azad Sarkar (52) in Hajiganj, Chandpur during the July mass uprising. He was arrested from Fatulla, Narayanganj on Wednesday night. This information has been confirmed by the Chandpur District Police Media Cell.

Arrested Monir Hossain is the son of the late Hendu Mia Kazi of Kazibari in Toragarh area of Hajiganj Upazila Sadar. He is the joint convener of Hajiganj Municipal Awami League and the president of Ward No. 8 Awami League. Hajiganj Police Station said that Monir Hossain had been absconding for a long time. He was arrested after conducting various operations with the help of information technology.
Earlier, Hajiganj Upazila Awami League President Helaluddin, former president of Municipal Chhatra League Shukur Alam, General Secretary of Municipal Chhatra League Mehedi Hasan and several others were in jail in the case. Apart from this, several other accused in the case are free on bail from the High Court.
During the movement, Azad Sarkar, father of BNP leader and Ward 8 Chhatra Dal President Ahmed Kabir (Himel), was hacked and injured in front of the municipality in Toragarh area under Hajiganj Municipality. He later died in the hospital. In this incident, his son Ahmed Kabir filed a case with Hajiganj Police Station on August 14. The complaint named 15 leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations and named 25 other unidentified people as accused.
Chandpur Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Lutfur Rahman said that Monir Hossain Mithu Kazi will be sent to court on Thursday.
